Grof® Breathwork is an experiential method of inner exploration that emerged from decades of inquiry into the nature of human consciousness. The approach was developed in the mid 1970s by Stanislav Grof and his late wife Christina Grof during their work at the Esalen Institute, where they were exploring non ordinary states of consciousness in therapeutic and research settings.
The method integrates perspectives from consciousness research, depth psychology, and spiritual traditions, while remaining grounded in direct experience. Sessions typically involve intentional breathing, carefully selected music, and a supportive setting held by trained facilitators. Rather than directing content, the structure allows each participant's experience to unfold according to their own inner process.
Participants often experience holotropic, or expanded, states of awareness, where emotional material, imagery, bodily sensations, or personal insight becomes accessible. What arises varies widely from person to person and from session to session. The emphasis of the work is on observation, presence, and integration rather than interpretation or outcome.
This weekend workshop offers a structured container that includes preparation, two breathwork sessions, and group integration. Participants alternate between the roles of breather and sitter, supporting both individual exploration and shared responsibility within the group field.
Participants will be guided by experienced facilitators and supported by trained apprentice facilitators in a safe, grounded, and compassionate container. Whether you are new to breathwork or continuing an ongoing journey, this workshop offers a structured yet spacious environment for deep exploration and integration.
This experience may be of interest to those engaged in personal inquiry, therapeutic processes, spiritual exploration, or professional development who are drawn to an experiential approach rooted in lineage, care, and ethical facilitation.
Grof® Breathwork is a transformative experience designed to facilitate deep self-exploration and healing. Due to the intense physical and emotional nature of the practice, certain health conditions may pose risks during breathwork sessions.
